It is frequently used for moldings. This particular run of slabs came from several winter blow downs. Sugar Pine trees do have a higher sugar level than most trees. Air drying without fans usually results in a slight darkening (more brown) than its initial raw light color. The raw slabs are sappy and require kiln drying to set the sap. Additionally, winter cut pine is more susceptible to a mild blue stain because the drying is slower. The pictures were taken when the slabs were first cut and sprayed with water. During the final drying process some end splitting, cupping and some blue tint may occur.
