HATCHET MOUNTAIN FOREST PRODUCTS

The Pecky Cedar Wood Slabs are cut 3 inches thick in various widths and lengths up to 16 feet.  The slabs are natural edge (some bark may still be attached), rough cut and unfinished.  Air Dried Pecky Cedar Wood Slabs start at $3.40 a board foot.  Kiln dried ROM (run-of-the-mill) Cedar Wood Slabs start at $4.12 a board foot.  For an added price we can flatten your slab on our CNC Router Table.  The pictures were taken when the slabs were first cut and sprayed with water.  During the final drying process some end splitting and cupping may occur.  Cedar tends to air dry more quickly than other species and doesn't always require kiln drying.  It is relatively free of sap and bug issues.  The “pecky” appearance is the result of a bacterial infection that attacks the tubular system in the heartwood. The bacterial growth is slow and heavy peck is usually found in older, larger trees. The bacteria is arrested by the drying process. The peck is crumbly and requires special finishing to hold it in place. Resins are frequently used. The finished wood is spectacular and presents beautiful and unique table tops. Pecky is usually kilned to ensure that the bacteria infection is arrested.
