The Black Oak Wood Slabs range from 1-5/8 to 3 inches thick and are up to 10 feet in length. The slabs are natural edge (some bark may still be attached), rough cut and unfinished. The prices range from $4.00 BF to $10.00 BF depending on the size and appearance. For an added price we can flatten your slab on our CNC Router Table. The center cut slabs from the log will have pith defects. These center cut slabs are ideal for natural edge shelves or mantles. The edge grain will be generally clear and vertical grain. The whole slab can be purchased at a reasonable price for the buyer to remove and clean up the natural edge pieces. For an additional price we can do the process and the buyer does the final sanding and finish. The pictures were taken when the slabs were first cut and sprayed with water. During the final drying process some end splitting, cupping may occur, and oxidation will temporarily dull the finish (until sanded or planed). Black Oak frequently has a bacterial infection that cracks the grain. This common defect makes it difficult to find large slabs as the older trees tend to be more affected.
